Jason Samuel is an Assistant Professor of Communication at Goshen College (since 2003) and serves as the Director of WGCS FM and Globe Media. His leadership in academic broadcasting has earned Goshen College's radio station multiple national awards. He holds a B.A. from Goshen College (1993) and an M.A. from Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (2010).
Research Focus: Samuel specializes in broadcasting innovation, radio station management, and media education. His work explores the intersection of community engagement, Americana music, and student-led media production. He has presented at conferences like the Americana Music Festival and the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems International Conference on topics ranging from promotional strategies to social media branding.
Awards: Under his direction, WGCS FM received 15+ national honors including:
- Signature Radio Station in the Nation Award (BEA, 2017)
- Abraham & Borst Award for Best College Station (IBS, 2011 & 2013)
- College Radio Station of the Year (IASB, 6 times)
- Individual recognition as Outstanding Faculty Advisor (IBS) and Indiana Sportscaster of the Year (NSSA)
Grants & Service: Samuel secured Mininger Grants for professional development (2006-2009) and mentors students through the Maple Scholars Summer Research Program. He coordinates events for Downtown Goshen Inc/First Fridays and serves on the WRWT Advisory Board and Indiana Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association board.
