Janine Joyce

Janine Joyce is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Social Sciences, Social Work, and Youth Work at the School of Arts and Humanities, Edith Cowan University. She holds a PhD in Social Science and has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research, focusing on ecosystem resilience, climate justice, and community adaptive capacity. Her work integrates Indigenous knowledge systems and participatory approaches to address environmental and social challenges. She has received a Commonwealth Scholarship (2012–2014) and has supervised numerous PhD students in areas such as refugee mental health and yogic peace education.

Research interests span climate justice, Indigenous knowledge, refugee resilience, and peace education. Her recent projects include developing a climate justice toolkit and enhancing disaster resilience in Western Australia. She has collaborated internationally, contributing to peace-building initiatives and studies on mindfulness and spirituality in conflict resolution.

Awards include the Commonwealth Scholarship. She also holds professional affiliations with organizations like the International Peace Research Association and the Aotearoa New Zealand Social Workers Association.

Grants include funding from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and Lotterywest. Her research has been published in journals like Sustainability Science, Environmental Management, and the Journal of Peace Education.
