Jan Bending

Jan Bending is a Field Service Associate Professor in the Sociology Department at the University of Cincinnati, where she has held this position since 2011. She previously served as a Field Service Assistant Professor (2004-2010), Adjunct Professor (2001-2004), and held part-time adjunct roles. Her academic focus includes teaching undergraduate courses like INTRO TO SOCIOLOGY and SUBST ABUSE AM SOC. She also serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies.

Her research interests center on applied and clinical sociology, sociology of rehabilitation, and substance abuse. She actively contributes to the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association as a National Editorial Board Member since 2006.

Outside academia, Bending maintains part-time roles as a Counselor (since 2002) specializing in disability and addictions, and as a Vocational Expert for the Social Security Administration (since 2001). Her career includes managing Employee Assistance Programs at Cincinnati Bell (1990-2001) and rehabilitation consulting for TRIAD (1989-1990).
