Dr. Ian Down is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (2003), an M.A. from the University of New Orleans (1997), and a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Sheffield.
His research examines comparative political economy with focus areas including: the politics of economic policy in advanced industrial countries; consequences of international trade and financial integration; public opinion and party positioning on European integration; and determinants of female-friendly labor market policies. His work appears in leading journals including Comparative Political Studies, European Journal of Political Research, and European Union Politics.
Dr. Down regularly presents at academic conferences and participates in departmental events including guest lectures on topics such as sustainability capitalism and global resource politics.
