Huiying Chen

Huiying Chen serves as Assistant Professor in History and Affiliated Faculty in Asian Studies at Purdue University, with office BRNG 6158 and Fall 2025 office hours Thursdays 1:30-2:30pm.

Her educational background includes a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2021). Prior appointments comprise teaching at the University of Maryland, College Park; a Visiting Fellowship at Harvard University's Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations; and a Predoctoral Fellowship at Berlin's Max Planck Institute for the History of Science.

Dr. Chen specializes in Chinese history after 1600, employing methodologies from cartography history, book history, and printing studies within early modern world contexts. Current work investigates urban management systems through historical lenses, particularly street governance in Qing Beijing.
