Yujie Pu

Yujie Pu is a Lecturer in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Illinois within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on the social and cultural history of late imperial and modern China, with interdisciplinary intersections in medicine, psychiatry, law, and religion.

• Specializes in legal and medical interactions in historical Chinese murder cases
• Explores global history of psychiatry and comparative Euro-Asian medical history
• Teaches courses spanning East Asian civilization surveys to specialized seminars on Qing dynasty history and Chinese medical traditions

Her current book project examines legal justice, medical authority, and madness in China from 1600-1930, alongside comparative studies of insanity, doctor-patient relationships, and Manchu medical texts.
