Professor Hui Tan is a faculty member at the School of Business and Management, Royal Holloway, University of London. His academic career began in the 1990s at Renmin University of China, continued at the University of Leeds, and he joined Royal Holloway in 2006 as a Reader in Strategy.

His research spans foreign direct investment, strategies of multinational enterprises from emerging markets, knowledge transfer, organizational learning, M&A, trust, cross-cultural management, and innovation. Recent work focuses on metaverse ecosystems, digital currency, and technology transfer in the semiconductor industry.
His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and innovation. He serves as Senior Editor of Management and Organization Review (2022–2027) and has supervised over 10 PhD students to completion.
