Huaichuan Rui is a Professor of International Business at the School of Business and Management, Royal Holloway, University of London. She holds additional roles on the China Forum Committee at the University of Cambridge and the Advisory Committee of Sussex Asia Centre. Her research focuses on Chinese multinational enterprises, emerging markets strategy, and geopolitical economics, with a particular emphasis on China-Africa trade, energy industries, and high-speed rail development.
Education: PhD in Management from Judge Business School, University of Cambridge (1999–2003).
Research interests include:
- China's outward investment and multinational firms
- International business strategy and multinationals
- Global economic development interactions
- Energy sectors (oil/gas, renewable energy), construction, and machinery industries
Key projects include the ERC-funded 'Trust, Global Traders, and Commodities in a Chinese International City' (€2.44M), examining Yiwu's rise as a global trade hub. Teaching courses include International Business (BSc/MBA), Strategic Management, and China-Africa Economic Relations.
Awards: ERC Advanced Grant (2016–2021). Grants total over €2.4M. She has advised UNCTAD, the European Commission, and OECD on Chinese multinational strategies and geopolitical trade dynamics.
