About
Dr. Helena Gellersen is a cognitive neuroscientist with dual appointments at the University of Cambridge and the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases. As a Research Fellow at St John's College and a postdoc in the Department of Psychology and MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, she specializes in understanding how healthy ageing and early Alzheimer's disease affect memory fidelity through functional neuroimaging.
Her research develops novel memory assessment tools and applies high-resolution fMRI to detect pre-clinical Alzheimer's signatures, focusing on:
- Memory recall precision across the lifespan
- Neural correlates of youth-like cognitive performance in older adults
- Early detection of silent brain pathology
- Quantitative neuroimaging biomarkers
Recent accolades include the BrightFocus Fellowship for Alzheimer's research. She actively contributes to open science through ReproducibiliTea and teaches the Improving Scientific Practices in Cognitive Science course.
