Helen Emmitt is the J. Rice Cowan Professor of English at Centre College, where she has served since 2002. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary poetry, particularly Irish poetry and gender studies. She has held prestigious roles as an NEH Professor and a Centre Scholar, and was honored with the Kirk Award for Teaching Excellence.
Education: AB from Bryn Mawr College and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
Research Interests: Modern and contemporary poetry, with specialization in Irish poetry and feminist literary criticism. Current projects include a book on contemporary Irish poetry, exploring themes of cultural identity and postcolonial narratives.
Teaching: Courses include Modern British Literature, Irish Writers, Contemporary British Literature, Jane Austen, and Toni Morrison.
