Anne MacMaster is a Professor of English and E. B. Stewart Professor of Language and Literature at Millsaps College. She specializes in modernism, the history of the novel, and the adaptation of fiction to film. Her research spans authors like James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Toni Morrison, Kafka, Mann, and Proust. She teaches courses such as 'Modernism and Film' and 'Vampires on Page, Stage, and Screen,' alongside Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies.
Education: Ph.D., English, University of Virginia (1991); B.A., English, Rice University (1983).
Research interests include exploring connections between modernist writers, the evolution of the novel from Austen to Zadie Smith, and gender studies. She has received awards including the Mississippi Humanities Council 2015 Humanities Teacher of the Year and the 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award.
Her publications include work on Richard Wright and Nathaniel Hawthorne. She is a passionate supporter of Millsaps women’s basketball.
