Giselle Bailey

Giselle Bailey is a Jamaican-American director and artist, serving as Chair of the Film Program and an Assistant Professor at California College of the Arts (CCA). Her work merges documentary, narrative, and conceptual art to explore cultural identity, myth, and social change. She has directed acclaimed projects like the HBO documentary Seen & Heard (2025, executive produced by Issa Rae) and The Legend of the Underground (2021).

Her research interests focus on Black television icons, marginalized communities, and the intersection of art and activism. Awards include recognition from IDA, NAACP, and Critics’ Choice, alongside inclusion in DOC NYC’s 40 Under 40.

Bailey’s academic contributions include mentoring students in visual storytelling and curating interdisciplinary projects. She collaborates with institutions like HBO, Netflix, and Sundance, while her installations, such as Shadow Work, highlight underrepresented narratives.
