Gesel Mason is an Associate Professor of Contemporary Dance Technique and Choreography at the University of Texas at Austin, College of Liberal Arts. She holds an M.F.A. in Dance from the University of Colorado Boulder and serves as Artistic Director for Gesel Mason Performance Projects. Her career spans over 15 years, including performances with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and Ralph Lemon/Cross Performance Projects.
Her solo project NO BOUNDARIES: Dancing the Visions of Contemporary Black Choreographers has been showcased at prestigious venues like the Kennedy Center and American Dance Festival. The project is evolving into a digital humanities archive to preserve the legacies of prominent Black choreographers such as Kyle Abraham, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, and Donald McKayle. Her work integrates dance, theater, humor, and storytelling to amplify marginalized perspectives.
