Trebien Pollard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dance + Choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of the Arts. His research explores the poetics of being, focusing on aesthetics' role in form translation and interdisciplinary design integration with performance practices to shape identity and representation.
Education:
- MFA in Dance, New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts
- BS in Mathematics Education, Florida A&M University
Performance & Choreography: Pollard has performed with RIOULT, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, Bebe Miller Company, Urban Bush Women, and Pilobolus. He co-choreographed with MacArthur Fellow Jawole Willa Jo Zollar for the opera "The Ritual of Breath is the Rite to Resist" and has choreographed works for director William “Electric” Black’s productions such as "The Hamlet Project" and "Frankenstein: The Rock Musical".
Teaching & Training: He has been on faculty at the American Dance Festival, Queens College, Adelphi University, and others. He is also a licensed GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® trainer.
Notable Projects: His work includes the jazz musical opera "The Hang" and the feature film "Ghostlight", where he portrayed Martha Graham. His research bridges performance practices with interdisciplinary methods to explore aesthetic impacts on identity.
