George Green

George Green is an Associate Professor in Classical and Scientific Archaeology at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on Roman urbanism, ancient numismatics, and economic networks in the classical world.

• Roman archaeology, economy, and numismatics
• Chemical analysis of ancient gold and heritage materials
• Development of muon/neutron techniques for archaeological studies

He leads projects like Making a PLASCH (portable laser ablation sampling) and The Golden Empire (gold supply networks in antiquity). At the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, he serves as Cultural Heritage Research Fellow, advancing large-scale facility techniques for archaeology.

Teaching includes undergrad courses on Roman cities, Republic-to-Empire transition, science-based archaeology methods, and postgraduate modules in archaeological science and Roman numismatics.
