Professor Fuwen Wei is a distinguished academic at the Institute of Zoology (IOZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), where he has served as Professor since December 1998. His career includes leadership roles as Deputy Director of IOZ (2008-2017) and Director of the CAS Key Lab of Animal Ecology & Conservation Biology (2003-2013). An Academician of CAS since 2017 and Fellow of TWAS since 2018, he represents China in the Ecology and Evolution section of international academic bodies.
His research spans cutting-edge conservation disciplines including conservation metagenomics, population genomics, and evolutionary biology, with a focus on biodiversity preservation. His work bridges theoretical ecology with practical conservation, particularly evident in his Lifetime Achievement Award for Giant Panda Research.
