Francesca Esposito is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Criminology, University of Oxford, and holds affiliations with Border Criminologies and St Antony's College. She is currently a British Academy Newton International Fellow conducting interdisciplinary research on immigration detention systems.

Her research critically examines gendered and racialised experiences of women in immigration detention centers across Italy, Portugal, and the UK, with strong emphasis on community-engaged methodologies and feminist perspectives. Key areas include Criminology, Gender Studies, Immigration Detention, Race and Ethnicity, Community Psychology, Women's Studies, and Human Rights.

She actively contributes to advocacy through Rome-based feminist NGO BeFree, focusing on supporting migrant women survivors of gendered violence in detention contexts, and develops counternarratives to challenge systemic injustices in migration governance.
