Clare Wiper is an Assistant Professor in Criminology at Northumbria University, specializing in gender-based violence research. She holds a PhD in Criminology (2018) and leads the MA Criminology and Criminal Justice program. Her work focuses on economic abuse in banking systems, coerced debt in domestic abuse contexts, and tech-facilitated violence. She co-leads the Gender Violence and Abuse IDRT and chairs the BSC North East Regional Group. Her research adopts feminist political economy frameworks and participatory design methodologies. Awards include the 2019 British Society of Criminology Hate Studies Network Award. She collaborates with banking professionals and victim-survivors to design abuse-resistant financial systems.

Research Interests: Economic abuse prevention, feminist activism, intersectional analysis, and structural gender inequality. Current projects address banking reforms to combat economic abuse and coerced debt's impact on survivors.
