Victoria Canning

Victoria Canning is Professor of Criminology at Lancaster University, co-chair of Statewatch EU, and co-editor of the Emerald Activist Criminology series. Her work focuses on the rights of women seeking asylum, particularly survivors of sexual violence and torture, spanning nearly two decades of collaboration with NGOs and migrant rights organizations.

• Publications: Authored and edited seven books, including Gendered Harm and Structural Violence in the British Asylum System (2017) and Torture and Torturous Violence: Transcending Definitions of Torture (2023).
• Research: Investigates intersections of criminology, gender, human rights, and structural violence within asylum systems.
