Eva Doherty is an Associate Professor and Director of Human Factors in Patient Safety (HFPS) at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. She leads the design and delivery of HFPS training for surgeons, emergency medicine specialists, and other healthcare professionals, emphasizing interprofessional education. Her role includes developing a two-year part-time MSc in HFPS and pioneering simulation-based training programs. She holds dual roles as a clinical psychologist and academic, integrating clinical insights into education and research.
Dr. Doherty earned her BA (Hons) in Psychology (1981), MA Psychology (1982), and MSc in Psychological Science (1984) from University College Dublin, followed by a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Essex (2013). Her research focuses on emotional intelligence, healthcare communication, and clinician mental health.
Her professional activities include co-chairing the International Association for Communication in Healthcare’s Advisory Committee, serving on the International Society for Quality in Health Care’s Expert Panel, and founding the Irish Network of Healthcare Educators. She has contributed to national initiatives like the National Healthcare Communication Programme and authored over 49 publications on healthcare education, patient safety, and clinician well-being.
