Eric Verdeil is a Full Professor of Geography and Urban Studies at Sciences Po and a Researcher at the Centre for International Studies (CERI-Sciences Po). He previously held positions at LATTS (Paris Est University), the City Environment Society at Université de Lyon, and the French Institute of the Near East.

Verdeil specializes in urban geography, with a focus on the sociology and history of urbanism, urban metabolism, and transformations in urban management policies. His work explores urban infrastructure (energy, water, waste) and political ecology, particularly in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions.
His recent publications analyze urban metabolism and energy transitions in Lebanon, Tunisia, and Jordan. He led the Hybridelec research program and co-authored studies on coastal development, solar energy resistance, and natural gas governance in Mediterranean metropolises.
Verdeil contributes to the academic blog Rumor (Urban Research in the Middle East and elsewhere) and has served on the editorial board of Géocarrefour. He supervises PhD students and teaches in Sciences Po’s Masters Programs in Urban Policy and Territorial Strategies.
