Emma Kemp is a full-time Assistant Professor at Otis College of Art & Design, where she teaches courses in Transmedia Documentary, Writing in the Post-Digital Age, and Contemporary Practice. She holds a MFA in Writing-Critical Studies from California Institute of the Arts (2014) and a BFA in Art & Design from Central Saint Martins, London (2011).
- Current research focuses on Environmental Media Studies, anti-colonial land conservation, and more-than-human frameworks
- Co-founder of Concerning Landscape/No Canyon Hills, a non-profit coalition for ecological advocacy in Los Angeles
- Organizer of Studio Bakersfield, an eco-media design studio with Mateo Altman
Her publications include the shortlisted Blue Pool: Cecelia (Aperture Photobook Awards 2018), edited collection Astral Projection in Higher Ed, and forthcoming works ATBOE (Penguin, 2026-2027) and BARBARA (Siglio Press). Recent articles like Selling Altadena (2024) and From Earthwork to Test Plot (2024) explore AI-assisted land use and activist design methodologies.
