Ellen Paul

Ellen Paul is a Professor of History at Fort Lewis College, specializing in East Central Europe, Russia & the Soviet Union, and The Holocaust. Her research spans 19th and 20th-century modern European history, with language proficiency in German, Czech/Slovak, Polish, and French.

• Education: Ph.D. in Modern Russian and East Central European History (University of Kansas, 1999), M.A. (University of Kansas, 1994), B.A. in German and International Studies (University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 1991)

Her research focuses on interwar European history, Cold War dynamics, and Holocaust memorialization. She led a 2022 student study tour across Berlin, Warsaw, and Prague to explore these themes.

• Scientific Awards: Fulbright Foundation research/travel grant (dissertation support), IREX grant for Polish language study in Wroclaw, Poland (1994)

Dr. Paul served as Chair of the History Department for four years and currently holds the role of Faculty Senate President. She is organizing a 2023 study tour in Central Europe.
