Doo Jae Park is a Lecturer in Sport Management and Asian/Pacific Islander Studies at the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology. He holds a PhD in Kinesiology with minors in Asian American Studies and Global Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on physical cultural studies, qualitative inquiry, and the intersection of race, diaspora, and immigration in globalizing contexts. Dr. Park is a Core Faculty member of the Nam Center for Korean Studies.
Research Interests: Park examines how sport functions as a site of racial formation and public pedagogy, particularly for Asian diasporic communities. His work critiques multiculturalist white supremacist logics and racial capitalism through ethnographic studies of youth ice hockey in the Midwest. Current projects include a book manuscript analyzing sport’s role in constructing multicultural identities while reinforcing systemic racial hierarchies.
Professional Affiliations: Member of NASSM, NASSS, ICQI, and KAASM.
Teaching: Teaches courses like SM 100 (SM Seminar), SM 111 (Issues in Sport & Fitness), and SM 332 (Organizational Behavior in Sport Organizations).
