Dr. Chen Chen is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at the Neag School of Education, University of Connecticut. His research critically examines the intersection of sport with systems of power including capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism. Holding a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta, he focuses on qualitative methodologies to explore sport's dual role as both an oppressive tool and a site of resistance. Chen serves on the editorial board of the Sociology of Sport Journal and co-founded the S.E.E.D.S. mentoring program for underrepresented scholars. His work has been published in top journals such as Journal of Sport Management and Settler Colonial Studies.
Key research areas include sport's role in transnational indigenous solidarity, anti-imperialist critiques of global sport, and environmental justice in sport management. He is affiliated with the Asian and Asian American Studies Institute and led the Network for Enriched Mentorship (NEM) program.
