Diego Rossini

Diego Rossini is a PhD student at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), currently serving as a Part-Time Lecturer in the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society. He contributes to the NCCR Evolving Language project, focusing on lexical innovation and linguistic change across cultures.

Education:

• Joint Master's in Natural Language Processing (with highest honors) from Sorbonne Nouvelle University, Nanterre University, and INALCO
• Master's in Linguistics (with highest honors) from the University of Bologna

Research Interests: Diego's work bridges linguistics and computer science, emphasizing computational methods for language analysis. His current research investigates how new words emerge and spread in societies, ranging from digital platforms to hunter-gatherer communities, integrating computational techniques with fieldwork.

Scientific Activities:

• Contributed to BERT-based models for modal verb disambiguation
• Collaborated on the Autogramm project (automatic syntactic analysis of African languages) at CNRS
• Optimized inference of LLM models during internship at Worldline R&D
• Focus on interdisciplinary approaches combining social sciences, cognitive linguistics, and digital communication
