Devin Maxwell

Devin Maxwell is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Composition, with a rich academic and professional background in music creation, performance, and entrepreneurship. He holds a PhD from the University of Utah, an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, and a BM from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Maxwell’s research and creative work spans experimental composition, music technology, and interdisciplinary collaborations. His chamber and orchestral compositions have been critically acclaimed by major publications like the New York Times and American Record Guide, described for their innovative textures and structural complexity. He actively engages with diverse media, including film, television, and video games, and has pioneered advancements in wireless music and mobile game sound design.

His artistic endeavors have earned accolades such as the Nief-Norf Composition Prize, Leroy Robertson Prize, and Best Experimental Film at the New York Independent Film Festival. His work is also analyzed in academic publications like Eldritch Priest’s book Boring, Formless Nonsense and the journal Postmodern Culture.

As a percussionist, Maxwell has performed at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and The Stone, collaborating with ensembles like So Percussion and WildUp. He co-founded the LoudLouderLoudest Music Production Company in Brooklyn and established Listen/Space, now a commissioning organization in Park City, Utah.
