Derek Anderson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at Boston University. He joined BU in 2015 and teaches courses such as Reason & Argumentation (PH 160), Introduction to Ethics (PH 150), and Introduction to Philosophy (PH 100). His research spans philosophical logic, feminist epistemology, social epistemology, philosophy of race and gender, philosophy of language, and the history of analytic philosophy. He also explores philosophy of mind, art, metaphysics, cognitive science, and experimental philosophy.
Anderson holds a B.A. from Rutgers University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His most recent book, Metasemantics, Intersectionality, and Truth in the Misinformation Age (2021), examines language and power dynamics in contemporary discourse. His research often addresses issues of epistemic justice, semantic corruption, and the intersectional dimensions of knowledge production.
His publications include notable works on safe spaces in epistemology, the psychology of philosophical views, and linguistic hijacking. He has contributed to journals like Social Epistemology, Philosophical Psychology, and Feminist Philosophy Quarterly.
Anderson’s advising and grants focus on fostering inclusive academic environments and advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of philosophy and social theory. He is affiliated with BU’s Philosophy Department and regularly participates in academic discussions on contemporary epistemological and ethical challenges.
