Dr. David Watson is Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry and School Director of Education at Keele University's School of Life Sciences. He holds a BSc in Biochemistry with Biological Medicinal Chemistry (2005) and PhD (2009) from Keele, studying beta cell destruction in diabetes.
Research examines apoptosis regulation in pancreatic beta cells, focusing on cytokine-induced ER stress signaling, glucolipotoxicity, and cytoprotective compounds. Pedagogical research develops innovative teaching methods in biochemistry education.
Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Biochemistry, Metabolism, Drug Design, and Cancer Biology. Leads curriculum development as Biochemistry Programme Director and School Director of Education.
