Prof. David Thornton is Professor of Euphonium and Baritone, and Director of Brass Band Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He holds a BA and PPRNCM from RNCM. His career spans over two decades as a globally renowned brass band conductor and euphonium virtuoso, leading top-tier bands like Brighouse & Rastrick and Grimethorpe Colliery. Currently serves as principal conductor of GUS Band and Artistic Director of RNCM's International Brass Band Festival. Joint-Head of Wind, Brass & Percussion at Chetham’s School of Music. Releases four solo albums and conducts high-profile projects including 'The Music of Howells & Bliss' and Nigel Clarke's 2020 album.
