Dr. David Hunsicker is a Professor of Trumpet at Wichita State University’s College of Fine Arts, Department of Music. He serves as Principal Trumpet of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and has held leadership roles in multiple orchestras, including the Flint, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek Symphony Orchestras. His career spans orchestral, solo, chamber, and commercial music performances, alongside extensive teaching and innovation in brass instrument accessories.
Education includes a Bachelor of Music from Indiana University, a Master of Music from the University of Michigan, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Solo Performance from Arizona State University. His research focused on orchestral auditions for trumpet. He has taught at Arizona State University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the Omaha Conservatory of Music since 1996.
David is an Endorsing Artist for Bach Trumpets and inventor of the patented Gapper® valve slide device. His performances include recordings with the Sonoran Brass Quintet on Dry Heat and collaborations with groups like the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings.
He actively participates in musical theatre, including lead trumpet roles with Music Theatre Wichita since 2014. His professional affiliations extend to Wichita Symphony Orchestra performances and educational outreach through platforms like TrumpetGapper.com.
