David Hartt is an Associate Professor of Fine Arts at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania. Born in Montréal (1967), he lives and works in Chicago. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from the University of Ottawa's Department of Visual Arts.
His work explores social, cultural, and economic complexities, focusing on how historic ideas transform over time. Notable exhibitions include Stray Light (2015), supported by the Graham Foundation, and solo shows at The Art Institute of Chicago, LAXART, and Or Gallery. His work is featured in collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam.
Hartt has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Tiffany Foundation Award (2011) and United States Artists Cruz Fellowship (2012). He is represented by Corbett vs. Dempsey (Chicago) and David Nolan Gallery (New York).
