Frances Lightbound is a Lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), specializing in Printmedia and Photography. She teaches courses such as Professional Practices: Grants, Galleries, Graduate School; Expanded Printmaking; and Sensitivity & Exposure: Concepts and Techniques in Light Based Printing. Her research explores materiality of built space, time, and relationships between bodies and architecture through printmaking, sculpture, and installation. Lightbound holds an MFA from SAIC (2016) and a BA (Hons) from Glasgow School of Art (2012).
Exhibitions: Recent solo shows include Rule Gallery (Marfa, TX), Bird Show (Chicago), and John David Mooney Foundation (Chicago). Group exhibitions include Blue Star Contemporary (San Antonio), Hyde Park Art Center (Chicago), and MONACO (St. Louis).
Residencies: Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists' Residency, The Studio Pavilion (Glasgow), and Chicago Artists' Coalition HATCH Projects. She has also received the Luminarts Visual Arts Fellowship (2017).
Teaching: Courses emphasize interdisciplinary practices, grant-writing, and contemporary art methodologies. She integrates historical and experimental print techniques, such as cyanotype, lithography, and laser-engraved printing, into her curriculum.
