Dr Dave Leal holds the position of Lecturer in Philosophy at Brasenose College, University of Oxford, and is a member of the Faculty of Theology and Faculty of Philosophy. He also serves as Schools Liaison Officer for Philosophy. His academic journey includes a BA and PhD in Philosophy & Theology from the University of Leeds, followed by a PGCE in Mathematics.
His research focuses on moral philosophy, moral theology, philosophical theology, and intersections between metaphysics/epistemology with theological concepts. Recent work includes contributions to Eucharistic moral theology and natural law ethics. He has authored books like On Marriage as Vocation (1996) and Debating Homosexuality (1996), and edited volumes in liturgical studies.
Teaching responsibilities span undergraduate courses in ethics, philosophy of religion, and moral theology, with some graduate supervision in Philosophy BPhil programs. He currently serves as treasurer of the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics and edits the 'Liturgy, Worship and Society' book series.
Recent activities include delivering the 2009 Tyndale Lecture on secular conceptions of heaven and contributing to reports on emerging ethical issues in technology and transsexuality. His current project involves compiling a Dictionary of Ethics.
