Joris Geldhof is a Professor of Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies. He serves as Vice-Dean for Research and chairs the Liturgical Institute, where he also edits the bilingual journal Questions Liturgiques. His expertise spans liturgical theology, Eucharistic studies, and Christian sacramentality in contemporary contexts. Key works include Liturgy and Secularism (2018), Liturgical Theology as a Research Program (Brill), and Monotheism in Christian Liturgy (2023).
Research focuses on sacramental theology, interreligious dialogue, and liturgical practices. He has authored/co-edited over 30 books and 200+ articles. Notable projects include editing Schillebeeckx’s sacramental theology papers and leading initiatives on sacramentality in multi-cultural contexts. His recent work explores virtual rituals, synodal spirituality, and liturgical reform.
Geldhof advised numerous doctoral students, including Matthew Hovde (2024), Sebeesh Jacob (2024), and Vitus Adiita (2023). He served as President of Societas Liturgica (2017–2019) and actively contributes to global liturgical discourse through editorial work and international collaborations.
