University of Massachusetts Chan Medical SchoolAbout
Dr. Daryl Bosco is the Paul J. DiMare Chair in Neurodegenerative Disease and Professor of Neurology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biotechnology at UMass Chan Medical School. She serves as Associate Vice Chair of Research for Neurology and heads an active research laboratory investigating neurodegenerative diseases. She earned her PhD in bio-organic chemistry from Brandeis University.
Her research program focuses on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia, and traumatic brain injury. Current investigations examine how stress, head trauma, and neuroinflammation contribute to neurological disorders. Research themes include protein misfolding in neurodegeneration, mechanisms of ALS pathogenesis, and the molecular basis of traumatic brain injury progression.
The Bosco Lab has received funding from multiple sources including NIH/NINDS grants and the Angel Fund for ALS Research. Current projects investigate: 1) Disruption of nucleocytoplasmic transport in FUS-related diseases; 2) Microglial dysfunction in ALS; and 3) Traumatic brain injury-induced neurodegeneration.
