Catherine Douthwright

Catherine Louise Douthwright is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at UMass Chan Medical School. Her research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia.

Dr. Douthwright's primary research areas include:

• Molecular mechanisms of ALS pathogenesis
• C9ORF72-related neurodegeneration
• Biomarker discovery for neurodegenerative diseases
• Novel therapeutic approaches including gene therapy

Analysis of Dr. Douthwright's publications demonstrates strong focus on:

• Molecular mechanisms in ALS pathology (SOD1, FUS/TLS, C9ORF72)
• Development of therapeutic strategies (antisense oligonucleotides, AAV gene therapy)
• Identification of CSF biomarkers for disease monitoring
• Clinical assessment methods for ALS progression

Dr. Douthwright collaborates extensively within the UMass Neurology Department and with external partners including Daryl Bosco's lab on proteostasis mechanisms and the ALS Therapy Alliance on clinical studies.
