Daniel Myssyk

Daniel Myssyk is a Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Activities at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) since 2007. A Canadian-American conductor, he previously served as Music Director of the Montreal-based Orchestre de chambre Appassionata (2000–2016) and as Assistant Conductor of the Richmond Symphony until 2024. He leads orchestral tours in the U.S. and Canada, collaborates with youth programs like RSYO (Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra), and works with regional ensembles such as Virginia Senior Regional Orchestras and Hampton Roads Chamber Players.

• Education: Master's Degree in Conducting from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University (2006); Conducting Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School (early 2000s) under David Zinman.

His research and performance interests span classical to contemporary repertoire, with a focus on stylistically authentic interpretations. He actively engages in opera, ranging from Mozart to modern works, and has premiered North-American compositions like Anthony Brandt's The Birth of Something. His recordings, including works by Suk, Dvořák, and François Dompierre, have earned critical acclaim and award nominations.
