Dr. Daewoung (Joey) Choi is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Washington Bothell School of Business, where he teaches Business Finance and Investments. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor of Finance at Louisiana State University Shreveport from 2017 to 2023, where he received the Educator Impact Award in 2019.
Dr. Choi earned his Ph.D. in Finance, M.S. in Applied Statistics, and M.S. in Finance from the University of Alabama. His educational background also includes an M.S. in Economics (33 credit hours completed) and a B.S. in Management from Jeonbuk National University in South Korea.
Dr. Choi's research focuses on empirical corporate finance with particular emphasis on:
- Corporate governance structures and their impact on firm performance
- Executive compensation and marketability
- Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in corporate decision-making
- Corporate social responsibility and CEO characteristics
- Risk management and financial stability
- Emerging markets finance
His research has been published in top-tier journals including the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, and British Accounting Review. His work demonstrates a clear trend toward examining the intersection of traditional finance topics with ESG considerations, particularly how executive characteristics and governance structures influence sustainability practices and risk management.
