Cynthia D. Warren is an Instructor of Oboe at the University of Pittsburgh and The College of Wooster, affiliated with the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. She holds principal oboe roles at Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater, and English horn positions with the Akron and Canton Symphony Orchestras, Pittsburgh Opera, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater. Her performance career includes soloist appearances with the Akron, Canton, and Wheeling Symphonies, as well as world premieres of Spencer Brown’s Concertino for Oboe and Joao Guilherme Ripper’s Abertura Concertante.
Her education includes a B.M. in Oboe Performance from the University of Akron and graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has studied under prominent teachers including Dr. Mark Ostoich, James Ryon, and Felix Kraus. Her pedagogical focus emphasizes youth orchestras and music education, with students advancing to top conservatories. She serves as a Teaching Artist for Stark County’s Artful Living and Learning and the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s School-Based Orchestra Education program.
Her research interests span performance technique, chamber music collaborations, and music education outreach. Cynthia maintains a private studio in Akron and has developed educational programs for institutions like the Blue Water Chamber Orchestra and Wheeling Symphony.
