Comfort Pratt

Dr. Comfort Pratt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at Texas Tech University's College of Education, specializing in Bilingual Education and Secondary Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Romance Linguistics from Louisiana State University and has additional degrees from Texas A&M University, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and the University of Ghana. Her expertise spans Spanish, French, linguistics, and sociolinguistics, with a focus on teaching strategies and student motivation.

She directs four study abroad programs in Spain, Costa Rica, Chile, and Ghana. Notable awards include the President's Excellence in Teaching Award, AATSP Outstanding Teacher Award, and induction into the YWCA Women of Excellence Academy. Dr. Pratt serves as Program Coordinator for the M.Ed. in Bilingual Education and ESL, advises Sigma Delta Pi, and holds leadership roles in academic organizations like the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).

Her research emphasizes transformative pedagogies and student engagement, with publications in journals like Hispania and Journal of Language Teaching. She has also authored textbooks and contributed to language preservation studies, including work on endangered Spanish dialects in Louisiana.
