Colin Bassett is a Senior Lecturer in the College Writing Program at Washington University in St. Louis. He holds an MFA from the same institution and has taught there since 2009. His research focuses on Writing Studies and Anti-Oppressive Pedagogy, emphasizing critical approaches to identity formation and social forces. Bassett co-chairs the Writing Identity theme in College Writing and leads the Program's Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
He founded REMAKE, an interdisciplinary first-year publication showcasing undergraduate work, and has taught creative nonfiction in the Department of English (2012–2016). Bassett’s creative work includes short stories published in Fence and Mississippi Review, as well as small press chapbooks. He has also served as a fiction fellow in Washington University’s MFA program.
Bassett teaches fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction in University College and co-developed the course Moral of the Story, exploring narrative meaning in contemporary fiction. His academic contributions extend to curricular design and DEI initiatives.
