Ciro Bustillo LeCompte

Ciro Bustillo LeCompte is an Adjunct Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Occupational and Public Health (SOPHe), where he also serves as a Lecturer. He holds an adjunct appointment at the University of Cartagena, Colombia, teaching Pollution Prevention and Control and Unit Operations in their Environmental Engineering Master’s Program. With a multidisciplinary background in civil, environmental, and chemical engineering, he holds BEng (2008), MASc (2012), and PhD (2016) degrees from Toronto Metropolitan University and the University of Cartagena. His professional credentials include PEng (Professional Engineer), EP (Environmental Professional), and CIPHI (Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors) affiliations.

His research focuses on water/wastewater treatment, environmental health, and climate change impacts on water quality. Notably, his Postdoctoral Fellowship under the Queen Elizabeth Scholars (QES) program involved a $500,000 interdisciplinary project analyzing climate change effects on groundwater in low-income nations. Key areas include advanced oxidation processes, photocatalytic nanomaterials, and phytoremediation using aquatic plants.

Dr. LeCompte’s teaching spans environmental engineering fundamentals and practical applications, complemented by industry-relevant expertise in risk assessment and resource recovery. He actively collaborates across institutions, including Western University and Colombia’s National University, to advance sustainable environmental solutions. His work bridges academic research, community health, and policy development in pollution control.
