About
Dr. Ciara Murphy is a Senior Lecturer in Anatomy and Regenerative Medicine at RCSI, specializing in biomaterials for bone regeneration. She holds a PhD in Bone Tissue Engineering and leads research on injectable biomaterials for osteoporotic fracture repair. Her work integrates tissue engineering with therapeutic delivery systems for metabolic bone diseases.
Research spans:
- Injectable hydrogels for minimally invasive applications
- 3D-printed scaffolds for load-bearing defects
- Nanoparticle-functionalized biomaterials
- Dual-function systems for bone regeneration and cancer suppression
Recent publications demonstrate innovations in antimicrobial scaffolds, selenium nanoparticle delivery systems, and miRNA therapeutics. Major grants include an ERC Consolidator Award (2023) for vertebral fracture repair technology. She collaborates internationally and mentors students in biomaterial science and regenerative orthopedics.
Awards:
- ERC Consolidator Award (2023)
- New Investigator Recognition Award, Orthopaedic Research Society (2014)
- Marie Curie Fellowship
