Christiane Fröhlich

Dr. Christiane Fröhlich is a Lead Research Fellow and Head of the Research Programme "Peace and Security" at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). Her work focuses on forced migration governance, climate-related mobility, and conflict dynamics in the Global South. She holds a PhD from Philipps University Marburg and has held roles including Postdoc at Hamburg University's CliSAP Cluster and Mercator-IPC Fellow in Istanbul. Recent projects include leading the MAGYC EU Consortium and the SAGE Centre for Sustainable Adaptation. Awards include the Routledge Interdisciplinarity Award and John Urry Memorial Prize. She teaches at Universität Hamburg on climate migration and advises on climate policy. Her research spans Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon, addressing refugee policies and climate-security linkages.
