About
Chongwoo Choe is a Professor in the Department of Economics at Monash University, specializing in industrial organization, corporate governance, and data-driven competition analysis. His research directly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through work on market regulation and economic policy.
His research focuses on behavioral economics and industrial organization, examining how firms leverage customer data in competitive markets, the implications of GDPR-style regulations, and optimal incentive structures in corporate hierarchies. Key themes include game-theoretic models of price discrimination, merger dynamics in digital markets, and the intersection of managerial power with compensation frameworks.
Recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on real-world applications of economic theory, particularly in digital privacy regulation (2023) and customer data sharing impacts on competition (2024). His work consistently bridges theoretical models with empirical evidence from contemporary market structures.
Choe leads significant research funding through the Australian Research Council, including the active project Big data: implications for competition, privacy and regulation (2021-2026) and three completed ARC projects analyzing internal capital markets, agency theory, and economic hierarchies. He actively collaborates with international scholars including Chen, Wang, Matsushima, and Park.
He serves on academic committees such as the International Webinar: Building a New Social Contract (2020) and teaches ECF5200 Game Theory and Business Strategy at Monash. His research network spans multiple countries with substantial industry engagement through policy-relevant economic analysis.
