Chengpei Xu is a Research Fellow at the Mine Internet of Things and Indoor Positioning (MIoT & IPIN) Lab, MERE, University of New South Wales, Sydney. Research Interests:
- Designing deep learning algorithms for multi-modal scene/document understanding and analysis
- Developing generative AI for healthcare, eLearning, and human-computer interaction
- Multi-modal sensor fusion to analyze complex, degraded environments
- Detection and recognition of arbitrarily shaped scene text

- CI for Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) grant (2024-2025): $160,000 for "Rock bolt identification based on LiDAR point cloud"
- Supervising MPhil student Birgul Topal (Middle East Technical University) on "Partially Overlapping Point Cloud Registration Accuracy in Mine Tunnels"
