Chad Kraus

Chad Kraus is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas, affiliated with the School of Architecture & Design. He holds a Master of Architecture from McGill University (2009) and a Bachelor of Architecture from Kansas State University (2002). His research focuses on designbuild pedagogy, natural materials, and earthen architecture, with notable contributions including the award-winning Dirt Works Studio and his edited book Designbuild Education (Routledge, 2017). Kraus has received the ACSA Designbuild Award (2014) and multiple design accolades for his projects. His work bridges theoretical inquiry with hands-on construction, emphasizing sustainable practices and embodied learning.

Labs/Teams: Director of the Dirt Works Studio, a designbuild program that has completed 15 projects and earned international recognition. Collaborates with institutions like Rural Studio and Studio 804 on pedagogical innovations.
