Jörg Rügemer is an Associate Professor at the University of Utah's School of Architecture, where he has taught sustainable architecture since 2006. His academic journey includes a Master of Architecture (1995) from the Southern California Institute of Architecture and a Diplom-Ingenieur Architekt (1993) from Hochschule Köln. A licensed architect in Germany and EU member, he integrates professional practice into pedagogy through fieldwork and industry collaboration.

Rügemer’s research focuses on energy-efficient buildings, net-zero design, and sustainability integration in architecture. His work spans post-occupancy monitoring, socialist-era mass tourism architecture in former Yugoslavia, and digital design methodologies. Grants from the Department of Energy Building America Program, AIA Upjohn Awards, and Rio Tinto Kennecott Utah Copper have supported his projects.
His teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary and sustainable design studios, digital representation, and multimedia communication. Students benefit from site visits, real-world case studies, and hybrid learning models. His sabbatical at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (2014/15) advanced net-zero building strategies.
