Cassandra Straubing is a Lecturer in the Department of Art and Art History at San José State University. She holds an MFA in Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology (2007) and a BFA in Studio Art from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (2002). As the current Glass Faculty Head and Studio Coordinator, her work focuses on sculptural exploration of domestic, agricultural, and industrial labor through glass and metal fabrication. She employs diverse glass-forming techniques including casting, blowing, and non-traditional processes.
Her professional roles include serving as Vice President on the Board of Directors for the international Glass Art Society. Her work has been exhibited nationally in cities like New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Portland. Recent publications include contributions to the Corning Museum of Glass New Glass Review, Urban Glass Art Quarterly, and the Oakland Museum of Art's Playing With Fire catalogue.
